Companies give their staff more than just app security

Employees’ safety seems to be top of the mind of corporates in the NCR these days. Companies are exploring innovative measures to enhance safety and security of employees, both within and outside the workplace. And, a start up is already providing the kind of service corporates want for their employees, or individuals want tailored for their needs.

Ten companies in the city currently subscribe to the service provider that, unlike safety apps, not only tracks the location of a customer and sends out a distress message to her/his friends and relatives, but also sends out on-call staff to help those in distress. The one-of-its-kind in NCR firm has only one equal – in Bangalore.
As soon as an employee presses the emergency button of the app, trained on-ground staff and online/on-call assistants get in touch with the employee. One can call in for any problem, from a flat tyre in the middle of the night to fear of stalking, medical emergency, accident and other situations of distress.

“It gives peace of mind to employees and employers, when they know that someone is keeping a close watch on their safety while returning home late at night,” said Rosemary Murry of Kama Ayurveda, which also offers this service to its employees.
“With more than 200 volunteers on call, the aim is to assist people in emergency/distress through calls, online support and on-ground assistance,” said Manoj Chandra, CEO of the app-based service provider, which was established in 2014 and boasts of a subscriber base of over 12,000 in Delhi/NCR already; adding, “More corporates are seeking us out as a New Year’s gift for their employees.”

“We remain on the road 24×7 in groups of two. We use bikes to reach the spot immediately,” said 25-year-old on-call staff Umesh, who provides assistance in Dwarka and Gurgaon. Equipped with pepper spray and first aid, he has been trained to manage and resolve distress situations, be it stalking, accidents, minor fire, gas leakage, electrical shock, car breakdown, road rage and car thefts, to name a few. The team also informs police, fire services and other government agencies as required.
