Fatorda CCTV project hits roadblock as South Goa collector cancels approval

The much hyped project of bringing entire Fatorda Assembly constituency under the surveillance by closed circuit television cameras met a hurdle with South Goa Collector Anjali Sherawat cancelling the Administrative Approval and Expenditure Sanction granted to the project on June 23, 2018. The Collector has withdrawn the earlier sanction given to M/s Amey Computers who had bagged the contract. “Administrative reasons” is given as the cause for cancelling the order.

It may be recalled that Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardessai had commissioned the work of installing the CCTV cameras in Fatorda constituency at a function held near Bolshe Circle on December 19, 2017. The project was sanctioned by then Rajya Sabha Member Shantaram Naik under the MPLAD scheme and 136 bullet cameras and 60 PTJ cameras were to be installed all over the Fatorda constituency and nearly 46,000 mts of cables were to be laid underground to prevent theft and destruction of the cables.

The contractor had said the work would be completed within three months however not much headway has been made in the project. Vijai explained the delay to the personal problems faced by the contractor. Speaking on the Collector’s order cancelling the approval Vijai said there were some procedural mistakes committed by the contractor due to which the order was cancelled. “But I shall get it re-ordered and the work will commence shortly,” he said.
