Govt. recommends authentication of profiles on matrimonial websites through Aadhar cards

Mrs. Maneka Gandhi, Min. for Women and Child Development, is reported to have said that by next year the Aadhar card authentication will be compulsory for those desiring to enrol on matrimonial websites. Currently, they are only required to furnish a mobile number and no ID proof is required. The Govt. has proposed the Aadhar authentication to crack down on persons using fake profiles on such websites and thereby duping people.
Recently, Bharatmatrimony.com beefed up security measures by starting a system wherein an interested user can have an “online trust badge” and a “professional trust badge” added to his profile by attaching an ID proof like ration card, Aadhaar, educational and salary certificates etc. “Such profiles get the maximum response. However, making steps compulsory will be difficult, as most users are concerned about privacy,” said JanakiramanMurugavel, Founder & CEO, Bharatmatrimony.com.Most other matrimonial website owners say security measures will definitely be beefed up, as advised by the ministry, however, making Aadhaar authentication compulsory would be difficult.
