Hi-tech police vehicle to carry under-trials

Uttarakhand police have acquired a new modified vehicle with better security features to take under-trials from prisons to court hearings. Purchased at a cost of around Rs 8 lakh, the modified jeep, which has seating capacity of about eight, will ply in the Kumaon region. The rear portion of the vehicle is completely covered and will be used to carry the under-trials. Efforts are on to buy another vehicle for Garhwal at the earliest.

In December 2014, the escape of notorious criminal Amit Malik alias Bhura from police custody had left cops red-faced. DGP (Uttarakhand) M A Ganapathy said, “We decided to get the vehicle to eliminate security threat while taking under-trials from jail to court.”
