Now, CCTVs to keep an eye on cops in Rajasthan

The policemen who used to keep a tab on criminals with help of CCTVs will themselves be under the watch of electronic eyes. While presenting the state budget, Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje said that to bring transparency in functioning of the policemen, CCTVs will be installed in 234 police stations in the state. These CCTVs will be monitored in an ultra-modern police control room. The focus will be on police stations at places considered important for tourism like Mount Abu and Pushkar.

The home portfolio, considered to be one of the most important ones, was largely ignored in the budget. Apart from installing CCTVs at police stations to improve policemen’s functioning, construction of new barracks in jails and providing video conferencing facility at a few jails, there was no significant announcement to improve the law and order situation and modernize the police force so that it can cope with the rising incidents of crime.
