300,000 CCTVs installed in 7,000 locations in Abu Dhabi

More than 300,000 CCTV cameras are installed at over 7,000 entities and public places to ensure safety in the Capital, said an official from the Abu Dhabi Monitoring and Control Centre (MCC).

“We are a government department established by the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi. There are 301,798 certified cameras installed at 7,029 entities in Abu Dhabi. Our main aim is to ensure safety and security in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Our goal is to protect entities. In case of any untoward incident, CCTVs work as the crucial evidence,” the MCC official pointed out. The cameras offer multiple levels of coverage which help to monitor and nab culprits, he added.

“The cameras help to identify a person through face recognition, detect other physical features in the background and capture number plate of a vehicle.” The MCC issues permits and approvals to install cameras. The officials visit a facility and suggest an apt place to put up the cameras. “We provide necessary equipment and suggest cost-effective ways. We also extend all necessary support with regards to CCTVs or even issues with the CCTV contractors,” he said.
