Bengal to issue fire safety licences online, says minister

The West Bengal government will issue fire (safety) licences online to those setting up new units, Javed Ahmed Khan, State Fire & Emergency Services and Disaster Management Minister has said. According to him, the State government has hired a company to create a dedicated portal for this.

“It (the portal) is expected to be operational by the end of this year,” Khan said at the CII-organised “Safety Symposium & Exposition: Proactive Approaches towards Safety at Workplace & Beyond”. The State government has also invested towards getting the infrastructure, buying equipment and conducting training, he added.
Notifications will also be issued to malls and high-rise buildings for mandatory engagement of a full-time fire supervisor. Mock drills, which will be assisted by the State fire and emergency services department, also need to carried out.

Meanwhile, according to Rahul Guha, DG, Directorate General of Mines Safety, Union Ministry of Labour & Employment, the amended Mines Vocational Training Rules are expected to be ready early next year. “Two government committees are working on it,” he said, as per a CII release.
