HD cameras to keep an eye on Delhi-Gurgaon e-way

Millenium City Expressway Private Limited (MCEPL) has installed 12 High Definition (HD) cameras at advantageous positions of all flyovers and toll plazas on the 27.7-km stretch from Rao Tula Ram flyover at Subroto Park in New Delhi to Kherkidaula in Gurgaon. The move is aimed to ensure the smooth functioning of the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.

Traffic on the expressway comes to a halt often due to accidents or other technical errors. Besides, narrow lanes at entry and exit points on the stretch are one of the main reasons for traffic snarls.

“We have installed HD cameras at advantageous positions to ensure round-the-clock surveillance of the stretch and to take necessary measures in minimum time in case of accidents, rescue operations and traffic snarls,” a spokesperson of MCEPL said.
The installation began in May and operation is expected to begin by the end of August. “We have completed the installation process and work is now on to supply power to them,” the spokesperson added.

The nine flyovers on the 27.7-km stretch include RTR, Mahipalpur, Rajokri, Iffco Chowk, Signature Tower, Sector 31, Jharsa Chowk and Rajeev Chowk. One camera each has been installed on these flyovers. In the case of Udyog Vihar flyover, two cameras have been installed. Hero Honda Chowk and IGI Airport toll plaza are the other two places equipped with cameras. Elaborating about the functioning of the cameras, the spokesperson said the HD cameras are capable of pan tilt and zoom to even capture number plates of vehicles. Apart from that, they can be adjusted according to convenience and can be operated from a command centre. Each camera has a range of one km.
