IIT Kanpur signs MoU with UP Police for predictive policing

UP DGP Mr OP Singh has signed an MOU with Director IIT Kanpur Prof Abhay Karandikar on behalf of UP Police and IIT (K) for joint research and data analytics for predictive policing.The DGP said that the technology will help UP police in becoming tech savvy, citizen friendly and corruption free.z

Prof Karandikar said that IIT Kanpur will provide its resource pool and technological tools to enable UP police to overcome the challenges in the field of predictive policing, data analytics, DNA forensics, drone technology etc.

IIT Kanpur has recently roped in Prof Arvind Verma, an IIT Kanpur alumnus, former IPS officer of 1977 batch and now faculty in Indiana University, Bloomington, US. Dr Verma has joined as Visiting Professor in IIT Kanpur for one year and will steer such initiatives this year.

Dr. Verma understands IIT system, academics as well as policing (after being in the police for 20 years). Dr. Abhay Karandikar, Director IIT Kanpur said, “We hope to leverage his and IITK expertise to solve problems of policing through technology!”
