Licences of 25 Mumbai private security agencies may not be renewed

The Mumbai Police may not renew licences of at least 25 private security agencies in the city, as several lapses were observed in their services at various vital installations in the city. According to senior police officers, all of these agencies have contracts for providing security to installations which witness high footfalls, like malls, multiplexes, religious installations and markets.

“The security at most of these places should be tight but it isn’t. The security is not only diluted but also superficial. We have around 25 such security agencies and we are seriously considering denying renewal of licences to these agencies,” said Kiran Shelar, Additional Commissioner of Police, Protection and Security, Mumbai. “These are fresh measures on our part to try and get establishments which have high footfalls to take strict measures to prevent terror attacks,” said Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni.
