Nashik Cops to send revised draft requirement of CCTV cameras

The Nashik police would soon send a revised draft requirement of close circuit television (CCTV) cameras to the state government for its approval, informed senior police officials. According to officials, once the draft is approved they would soon be taking up the work of floating tenders and get the CCTVs installed by May next year. Earlier, the police had prepared a proposal to install 943 CCTVs, which were to be installed at 302 places in the city and a proposal in this regard was also sent to the state home department. However, the proposal was sent back, suggesting some corrections.

The officials said after the corrections, the number of cameras to be installed in the city have gone beyond 1,000. The cameras would include fixed cameras, Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) cameras, red light violation detection (RLVD) cameras and automatic number plate detection (APNR) cameras)

The cameras will be installed in the entire jurisdiction of the city police. Officials said during the Kumbh Mela last year, the city police had set up temporary CCTV cameras across the city to keep a watch on the flow of traffic and rush of pilgrims. While chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was eager to get permanent CCTV cover then, the project of permanent CCTVs could not materialise then. However, taking into account the eagerness of the CM in getting CCTVs installed in the city, a series of meetings were conducted by the Nashik police with different departments, including the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC).
