Safety audit order for BSL

The district disaster management authority (DDMA) on Saturday ordered Bokaro Steel (BSL), a subsidiary of SAIL, to conduct a safety audit of all chimneys and machines at its blast furnace unit. It also said the company would face legal action if it failed to submit a report within 28 days. The move by DC Rai Mahimapat Ray, who is the chairman of DDMA, follows the incident of June 21 when a chimney at the blast unit collapsed and broke toxic gas pipelines that led to fire. Ray asked BSL to stall work at the unit till the safety audit report.
