Safety cell formed for govt. buildings in West Bengal

The West Bengal government has constituted a safety cell under the state PWD for ensuring continuous maintenance and services of major government buildings including government run auditoriums, stadiums and hospitals. The cell will comprise of the PWD engineer in chief, one retired official of the fire and emergency services and one expert in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning, preferably a retired official of the CPWD.

According to plans, officials of the safety cell would visit different government buildings to look into the overall condition of the buildings and will conduct a fire safety audit of the buildings. Officials could either make a planned visit in advance or may also conduct surprise visits of any particular building, according to reports as to which buildings require immediate attention. Following visiting each building, the officials of the cell will prepare a report on the necessary steps and actions to be taken following which the PWD authorities will take on the necessary work.
