Dubai mulls using anti-theft system that blinds thieves with fog

Dubai Police are mulling the usage of a smart electronic system that triggers heavy smoke when break-ins happen at commercial establishments. The Dubai Police have already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with FogGuard, a company that specialises in smart alarm systems, to introduce this security system in the emirate.

FogGuard has developed a smart electronic system that triggers heavy smoke if alerted about intruders. The system contains generators that can be easily integrated with warning systems to generate smoke that hinders the vision of the thieves thereby contributing towards the security and safety of the employees at banks and exchange houses. The generators confront the intruder by filling the room with fog within seconds, thereby hiding the target and blinding the intruder’s vision and eventually forcing him to quit the premises in fear.

The ‘security fog’ can protect huge areas and are designed to stop thieves by having them lose their tracks. It has the capability of at least 90 minutes of operation. The signing ceremony took place during the third edition of the annual awareness training on security for banks, money exchanges and jewellery stores, organised by the Criminal Investigation Department, under the patronage of Major-General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police.

The agreement was signed by Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation Affairs, and a representative of the company. Also present were Brigadier Salem Al Rumaithi, director of Criminal Investigation Department; Col Said Lootah, director of Crime Prevention Department; and Adel Joker, director of the Criminal Investigation Department. The two parties agreed to develop joint activities in the field of safety and security. The company will cooperate with the Dubai Police for the security of banks, money exchange offices and gold and jewelry outlets.
