GNR to monitor private security activity in Portugal

The National Republican Guard (GNR) in Portugal will conduct a surveillance operation directed at the activity of private security workers and the adoption of security measures and systems. In a statement, the GNR said that as part of the “PRISEC 2022” operation, it will carry out activities in bars, nightclubs, and cultural events.

The GNR will also carry out surveillance actions in “show areas, public entertainment and entertainment venues, and dining and drinking establishments with dance spaces, where all the required security measures will be assessed, including private security and video surveillance systems”.

“The increase in demand for these entertainment venues will increase the occurrence of disruptive incidents, which is a concern for the Guard, as this can jeopardise safety and public order at night, especially in regions with a high tourist influx,” the GNR said in the statement.
