Ahmedabad police claim major improvement in crime detection through CCTV surveillance

Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad, G S Malik stated that crime in the city has decreased over the past three years due to increased surveillance through public CCTV cameras. At the same time, the crime detection rate has improved significantly.

Holding a crime conference with city officials and all police inspectors, the commissioner shared that the project to install public CCTV cameras began in March 2025. At present, a total of 6,703 public CCTV cameras are active in the city. Out of these, 3,409 are connected to the police stations, and 3,294 are connected to the control room. These cameras have helped police monitor criminal activities more effectively.

The detection rate of serious bodily crimes has reached 99.77%. Detection of property-related crimes has improved by 10.89% in the last three years. Crimes such as theft, vehicle theft, house breaking, murder, attempt to murder, robbery, and dacoity have seen a 1% to 12% improvement in detection.

In 2025, action under Prevention of Anti-social Activities Act (PASA) was taken against 1,109 people, marking a 57% increase. Externment cases also increased by 90%, with 259 individuals externed.

A total of 487 cybercrime cases were registered in 2025. Although cybercrime increased by 202%, the detection rate stood at 82.11%. Over three years, property-related crimes decreased by 32%, while economic crimes increased by 47%.
