To handle chemical, biological, and radiological emergencies, as well as incidents in “super” high-rise buildings, specialised units will be set up across all the regions of Uttar Pradesh.
Announcing the formation of such units as part of the overhaul of the state fire department, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said small fire stations, equipped with fire tenders, will be established every 100 kilometres along the expressways in the state to ensure immediate rescue and relief operations within the “golden hour” of an accident.
“The Fire Service Department is directly linked to the protection of public life and property. Therefore, its structure must ensure a quick, efficient, and sensitive response to every emergency,” the chief minister was quoted as saying at the review meeting.
The creation of new posts is a major step toward strengthening the Fire Department’s efficiency and service delivery across districts, regions, and headquarters,” an official said.
“While approving the posts, the chief minister emphasised the need to strengthen and modernise the Fire Department by equipping the force with state-of-the-art technology and highly trained personnel to meet the challenges of rapid population growth, industrialisation, and urbanisation,” the official added.
According to the officials, the new fire service units are already operational in Kushinagar, Azamgarh, Shravasti, Kanpur Nagar, Ayodhya, Aligarh, Moradabad, Chitrakoot, and Sonbhadra airports.
The chief minister also instructed that the new posts to be created must include a district-level accounting cadre to improve administrative efficiency and financial transparency, as well as additional positions at the State Fire Training College to enhance the quality of training and research.
“The department’s reorganisation process should be completed promptly so that the benefits of these reforms reach the people as soon as possible,” the CM was quoted as saying.
