Strategically located at India’s gateway to Southeast Asia, Manipur holds significant geopolitical and security importance. Sharing a porous border with Myanmar, the state is central to India’s Act East Policy and emerging trade corridors. However, its complex socio-ethnic landscape, cross-border insurgent activity, and smuggling routes pose persistent security challenges. Strengthening infrastructure, surveillance, and public-private coordination in border management, logistics, and cyber domains is vital to unlocking Manipur’s potential as a secure hub for regional commerce and connectivity.
