CCTV cameras outside shops made mandatory in Karachi

Karachi police have again issued notices to traders regarding installing close circuit television (CCTV) cameras outside their shops and to keep footage of at least 15 days.
The directive is meant to help catch suspects of armed robberies in markets, officials said.

The notices issued on the basis of Sindh Security of Vulnerable Establishment Ordinance 2015, warn shopkeepers that failure to install the security cameras could result in imprisonment and imposition of fines. The warning said that action carries a penalty of up to six months imprisonment or a fine of Rs 45,000, while the business can also be sealed.

The notice states that at least four-megapixel CCTV cameras should have a night-vision feature. The angle of the cameras should be such that they monitor the movement on both sides of the road. It directed the traders also to install a UPS.
