High resolution CCTV cameras, new SOP for Jagannath Temple security soon

The district administration will soon roll out a new SOP for the security of Shree Jagannath Temple, in consultation with the SJTA and the temple Managing Committee. Matters related to the security of the 12th-century shrine were discussed at a meeting presided by Collector Samarth Verma.

As many as 135 high-resolution CCTV cameras will be installed at vantage points to ensure full-proof round-the-clock surveillance of the temple and its surroundings. It was decided that a joint meeting will be held every week to review the security of the temple, said sources.

No one will be allowed to remain in the temple once the doors are shut in the night. Besides, an equal number of JTPs (Jagannath Temple Police) and personnel of State Police will guard the temple at night, stated sources.

This apart, the matter of temple kitchen vandalism was also discussed at the meeting. According to sources, the four JTP personnel who were issued show-cause in this matter have responded to the notice. Action will be initiated on the basis of their response, the district administration stated.
