The Ministry of Interior (MOI) has urged owners of establishments covered under the security surveillance law to comply with regulations requiring the installation and maintenance of security cameras and surveillance systems, while ensuring that recorded footage is retained for 120 days without alteration.
In a press statement issued, the ministry said the requirement is in line with Law No. 61 of 2015 governing the installation and regulation of security cameras and surveillance equipment.
The ministry said the law applies to a wide range of establishments, including hotels, hotel apartments, commercial complexes, cooperative societies, residential compounds, banks, youth centers, sports and cultural clubs, gold and jewelry shops, shopping and entertainment centers, hospitals, clinics, fuel stations, mosques and other places of worship, industrial areas, marinas, shooting ranges, as well as warehouses and storage facilities for precious and hazardous materials.
The MOI stressed that surveillance recordings must be preserved for a period of 120 days and must not be modified under any circumstances. It also called on establishments to carry out regular maintenance and ensure the continuous updating of their security camera and surveillance systems to maintain compliance with the law.
