Private security personnel to guard liquor shops in Chhattisgarh

The State Excise Department and Chhattisgarh State Marketing Corporation have decided to deploy private security personnel instead of home guards in liquor shops, according to a senior Excise official. Earlier, the Department had asked Director General,  Home Guards Girdhari Nayak to provide 600 home guards while the Department too had floated tender for hiring private security personnel to handle the situation of opposition to constituting Liquor Corporation by the people in some regions. Now, the Department does not have any requirements of home guards, State Excise Commissioner Ashok Agrawal said.

The Department will deploy two security personnel in each of the liquor shops having upto annual income of `3 crore whereas three or more security personnel would be deployed at the liquor shop having annual income of above `3 crore. The Department had received response to tenders from 44 companies, out of which 34 have been finalized and the Department has asked final quotations from the selected companies. Liquor would be supplied in all the 27 districts of the State from Mandir Hasaud (Raipur) and Lingiadih (Bilaspur) godowns (cellars), Agrawal further said. The tender floated for hiring transportation of liquor which was opened on March 23 was cancelled after higher rates were quoted by the transporters. The Department will arrange vehicles through district collectors and district excise officials, he said.
