From the Editor’s Desk: October 2014

It is with utmost humility that I pen my editorial this month, as it marks the completion of 10 years for SECURITY TODAY!

In this journey, I would like to gratefully acknowledge and thank my advertisers, readers, all my friends, and my family, for their unwavering support and blessings.

This October 2014 issue of SECURITY TODAY is notable as it dons a new look signifying a fresh approach. It is also symbolic, as G4S, the largest player in the business, completes 25 years of its existence in India! This issue is also remarkable on account of the fact that G4S, as our valued advertiser, has occupied our coveted back cover position all these years!

As an industry player for 25 years I have enjoyed every bit of being part of this noble business of protecting people and assets, and my role as Publisher and Editor of SECURITY TODAY has been a major contributor to making my past decade indeed memorable. This journey has been full of industry experiences… along the way I met some wonderful people who I probably would have never met otherwise. I observed industry colleagues flourish and businesses skyrocket, kids of yesteryears mature – to become accomplished businessmen chasing their unbelievable goals, yet – I saw some flounder in their pursuit of success. I saw mavericks entering the industry and doing brilliantly well. I saw turf wars taking place for the crowning glory of undisputed leadership, and then there were raiders from other established domains wanting to conquer the security industry. I saw alliances, mergers and acquisitions, and I drew vicarious pleasure when friends forayed into and excelled in international markets. And also, I was pained to see some friends leave the arena to be with God.

SECURITY TODAY gave me the opportunity to travel all over the world and mingle with the best in the business, attending and at times even speaking at international seminars and workshops. Walking down the aisles of exhibitions in Shen Zhen, Taipei, Beijing, London, Singapore and Washington…, looking for trends, evaluating new products and trying to spot breakthrough innovations, and yes, attending industry dinners and forging friendships too!

SECURITY TODAY was born out of the idea of disseminating information and knowledge in the Indian Security Industry!

1st Academy of Security Science, Education & Training Pvt. Ltd. (1st ASSET) was incorporated in June 2000 with the objective of imparting skills and training to those who were keen to acquire knowledge and become aware of the latest best practices and technological updates in the protection world.

Perhaps the idea of fulfilling the above objective was attempted before it’s time, the Indian security industry then, was not willing to invest in training for professional development. As a result our cash register did not ring for over three years! Just as I was looking for options, a well-wisher suggested that perhaps, as the security market had not matured, the people involved in the security profession were only ready to receive inexpensive education, and that too – delivered at their doorsteps! This seed germinated into the idea of publishing a high quality magazine on security and SECURITY TODAY was finally introduced into the Indian market in October 2004. It was formally launched with fanfare by India’s ‘Super Cop’ Mr. KPS Gill, renowned motivational speaker & author, Mr. Shiv Khera, and Mr. RS Gupta (IPS), the Delhi Police Commissioner. It has progressed from there to become India’s leading resource for updates on technology and events in the Security Industry.

Thank you Lord, for giving me a ring side seat to witness and play my part in this amazing evolution!

I hope you enjoy reading this issue, as much as my team enjoyed working hard on putting it together for you. Till we meet next month, Cheers and Happy Reading!
