Day-care centres to be under CCTV surveillance in Kerala

Seeking to ensure safety of children in daycare centres, Kerala police has made CCTV cameras mandatory in such institutions in three districts. With this order, the cameras would be installed in day care centres in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta, police sources here said.
The directive was given in view of the alleged torture of a child by a caretaker in a day-care centre in Kochi last week.

CCTV cameras, installed in all rooms accessed by children, would help parents ensure that their children are safe at the daycare centres, they said. The caretaker of a day-care centre in Kochi, Mini, was arrested following video footage aired by news channels, purportedly showing her assaulting a two-year-old child at the facility on May 23.The incident triggered wide protests and concern about the safety of children in day-care centres in the state.
