NEXT Biometrics reveals sensor orders, India expansion

Norway’s NEXT Biometrics has announced it received five orders during May for its new generation of fingerprint sensor modules, and announced a distributor deal with AqTronics Technologies in India. The new modules are labelled NB-1011, NB-2020 and NB-3010 and are based on the same fingerprint sensor and fitted in modules tailored for various volume markets – the orders came from firms in the US, Asia and Europe. The new modules replace the first generation NEXT modules (the NB-1010), launched in 2014.

NEXT said the firms ordered SDK’s (Software Development Kits) and fingerprint sensors in modest volumes as part of their product development process, with each of the five customers having requirements for large, high performance sensors with a target launch for the second half of 2015 or the first half of 2016. The CEO of NEXT Biometrics said: “Having expanded our offering from 1 to 6 fingerprint sensor modules, NEXT Biometrics now meets the markets demand for various interfaces, colors and physical dimensions. All of the five customers have made it clear that they need NEXT’s unique combination of quality sensor size at a very low price. Longer term, these five new projects each represent five-digit and six-digit volume potential.”

The firm revealed it has signed on AqTronics Technologies as distributor in India, one of the world´s largest markets for biometric solutions. The CEO says: “We have searched to find the best partner in the vast and fast growing Indian market. There is great demand for our new modules being launched in the past months, and we believe AqTronics is the perfect channel partner for NEXT. With more than 7 years of experience in the Indian biometrics industry, AqTronics has become a trusted and leading distributor for Identification products in India.
