Odisha announces enhanced security measures for doctors in 14 medical colleges and hospitals

In a major step towards ensuring the safety and security of healthcare professionals, the Odisha government has announced a comprehensive plan to strengthen security arrangements across medical institutions in the state.

As part of the initiative, dedicated security officers will be deployed in all 14 government medical colleges. These officers will be of senior ranks, including Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), or Deputy Commandant, and will be responsible for overseeing security management within the campuses.
In addition to medical colleges, district headquarters hospitals will also see enhanced security presence. Officers of Inspector rank will be appointed to supervise law and order and respond promptly to any incidents within hospital premises.

The government has further decided to set up dedicated police outposts in all medical colleges. These outposts are expected to ensure quicker response times and act as a deterrent against any form of violence or disruption targeting doctors, staff, or patients.

The decision comes amid rising concerns over the safety of doctors following incidents of violence and unrest reported from healthcare facilities in different parts of the country. By deploying trained police personnel and establishing a structured security mechanism, the state government aims to create a safer and more secure working environment for medical professionals

Officials stated that these measures will not only boost the confidence of doctors but also improve overall hospital security management. Further details regarding implementation and deployment are expected to be announced soon
