Cambodia Police chief calls for private security participation in National, SEA Games

Cambodia’s Deputy National Police chief Y Sokhy wants to see private security services play a role in ensuring public order during the SEA Games, which Cambodia will host next year.
Sokhy made his view known while meeting with private security companies, to discuss security and public order preparations for the coming third national games this year and the next year’s SEA Games, at the National Police headquarter on October 28.

“Private security companies must cooperate more closely with the national police to prepare for the third national games 2022 and the Sea Games 2023,” the National Police website said.

While encouraging them to take part in the security protection during the coming national and regional games, Sokhy reminded private security companies to follow the law and follow all legal provisions. This included the recruitment of security guards, cross training with the national police, and their participation preventing crimes such as arms and drug trafficking, theft and burglary.

Lim Sokha Reaksmey, the National Police’s Private Security Management Department director, said at the meeting that private security companies had made significant contributions to the implementation of the safe village and commune policy. He said around 500 private security guards will be needed to ensure public order at this year’s national games.
