CM approves CCTV cameras for Mumbai’s coastline

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has approved the installation of CCTV cameras along landing points of Mumbai’s coastline. He reviewed coastal security in the presence of Legislative Council Chairman Ramraje Nimbalkar and decided that a slew of measures should be in place to secure the city’s coastline. The coastline was targeted during 26/11 and loopholes were used by terrorists who attacked the city.

“There has been a need for CCTVs to secure the extensive coastline in the city. It was decided at the meeting that cameras will be installed at all landing points,” said a senior official who attended the meeting. Besides installing cameras, fishermen will be sensitized to act as the eyes and ears of the police. The 720-km coastline is porous with only three police stations. “There is a staff crunch and lack of machinery to patrol the long distance. All those things are also being worked out,” said the official.
