TGSRTC rolls out CCTV surveillance system to boost safety of passengers

In a major step towards strengthening passenger safety and security, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation has launched an advanced CCTV surveillance system in its buses under a pilot project titled Safety in Bus.

The initiative aims to curb incidents of theft, harassment, accidents, and other untoward events during travel. Spearheaded by Managing Director Y Nagi Reddy, the pilot project has been introduced in the Adilabad region, where around 175 buses have been equipped with state-of-the-art cameras covering driver cabins, women’s reserved seats, footboards, entry points, and rear seating areas.

According to the corporation, the cameras record passenger movements throughout the journey, transmitting footage to drivers, conductors, and the central control room for real-time monitoring.

This system enables authorities to identify suspicious individuals, monitor criminal activities, and collect crucial evidence in case of security incidents. Passengers, particularly women and senior citizens travelling at night, have welcomed the initiative as a major deterrent to crime.

Officials noted the project is also expected to improve driving standards and staff accountability. Following the success of the Adilabad pilot, the transport corporation plans to extend this comprehensive CCTV surveillance framework to buses across all regions of Telangana in the coming months to ensure widespread commuters’ safety.
